i happily introduce you to michelle kane....

Name: Michelle Kane
Business name: Michelle Kane Photography
Location: Sheridan, Wyoming
Website/blog: www.michellekanephotography.com/photoblog

Tell us one sentence to describe your photography:
My images tend to be deep, rich, vibrant and dramatic.

What's one thing that everyone should know about you?: I'm a total and complete night owl. I feel most energized and creative VERY late at night. I also have a freakish habit of looking at the clock when it says 5:18. It's creepy (5/18 happens to be my birthdate, which makes it extra creepy.)

How long have you been doing photography and how did you get started:
I've officially been in business since October of 2008. An interest in photography was piqued after my first child was born. I got serious about shooting and learning the craft while pregnant with my daughter. I wanted artistic maternity images, figured I could do them myself, so I began to do a lot of research online, started following photography blogs and forums, read as much as possible and really delved into Photoshop deeper than I had previously at my graphic design job. I then started photographing my friends' families and eventually decided I could be supplementing our income with a legitimate business.

What did you want to be or think you would be when you grew up?:
When I was very little, I was obsessed with being the world's fastest grocery store bagger. I would gather groceries from the cupboards and practice loading the paper sacks (double bagged I might add) while timing myself. Complete dork with high aspirations, right?

How would you say you found your "style" for shooting and editing?
I guess I think more about the editing side of photography than I do the shooting side. My shooting is based on interesting locations, textures, colors and light. When I initially see a location, my first thought is how I can edit that backdrop for the desired look. I'm constantly scouting for untapped areas and tend to be drawn to dilapidated, rundown, urban and commercial areas. I've always had a propensity for high saturation, texture and slightly surreal images. Through hours upon hours of playing and experimenting, I have developed my current look, which is constantly evolving.

If you were given $500 today, what would be the first thing you would do?:
Put it towards more L glass or my lighting setup.

Where do you go to find inspiration?:
Photography blogs and flickr are great for general inspiration. However, I tend to draw the most inspiration for my shoots from the location and surroundings and never really plan much ahead of time. I let things unfold and ideas flow naturally while in the moment. While editing, music plays a huge roll in the direction I take an image. Sometimes I'll play a song over and over to keep in the creative flow until an image is finished.

What type of sessions are your favorite (children, e-sessions, weddings, newborns....) and why?: Senior and boudoir shoots are most exciting for me, as I love to take my time with each shot, make use of interesting locations and light, setting up the shot exactly how I want it, having time to pay attention to the little details and going at them with a more fashion oriented angle. However, newborns are pretty special too; a lot of work and unpredictable, but oh so rewarding.

What equipment do you use and if you had only one lens to use...what would it be?: 5D Mark II, 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.8, 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm 2.8. The 50mm 1.2 is on my camera most of the time. It's sharp, awesome for low light and an all around highly versatile lens.

What moment in your life makes you smile every single time you think about it?:

While changing my 2-year-old daughter's poopy diaper, she looked up at me so innocently and said, " I sure love you, Mommy. "

What is at the top of your wish list right now?:
At this very moment it's for my daughter to outgrow her obsession with rubbing things in her hair and all over her body, furniture and carpet; namely lotion, Vaseline, paint and Chapstick. Her messy, greasy obsession drives me bonkers.

Tell us the best advice that you have ever received (photography related or life in general): Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you - not because they are nice, but because you are.

If we surprised you at your house today, what would be the first thing we would notice?
That I'm probably still in my PJs and haven't showered... even if it's the late afternoon.
What's your secret christmas wish?
For all the important people in my life, including myself, to receive total restoration of health, deliverance, divinely opened doors and the guidance that we've all been praying for.

And lastly.....when we started the maternal lens, all of us filled out this questionnaire and shared our answers....now it's your turn :)

What is your favorite word? ethereal
What is your least favorite word? the abbreviation LOL (especially when it's overused)
What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? genuine encouragement & kindness, the calm and devastating beauty of nature
What turns you off creatively, spiritually or emotionally? disrespectfulness, fakes, a messy house and office
What sound or noise do you love? my children giggling
What sound or noise do you hate? bagpipes and my children screaming
What is your favorite thing to say when you get mad? I don't like to say it, but I usually do say it... the S word.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Although I've never done it and am too shy to attempt it... acting.
What profession would you not like to do? semi truck driver... I have terrible motion sickness and fall asleep very easily in vehicles.
If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? Welcome home.

a HUGE thank you to michelle kane! make sure to leave her some blog love!!

and merry christmas eve eve to you all!!! :)
